It's the Content, Stupid

This blog is a little about food and a little about my weight-loss frustrations, with a touch of everyday life and some food photography thrown in when I take a decent shot.

I have a couple of regular readers -- Hi Mom! -- but most of my visitors come through search. And 90 percent of the time they're searching for one thing: Ina Garten's mustard-roasted potatoes recipe.

If you Google that phrase, or one of several others that are close to it, my blog and my entry on trying that recipe for the first time comes up first. First result on Google. First one.

Readers could go to foodnetwork.com and find the recipe I'm sure. They could even go to barefootcontess.com and find it. But instead of going to either of those sites -- or any one of hundreds of others were it is undoubtedly published -- they search for the recipe itself and they find me.

It has me thinking as I prepare to start my new job: Are customers/readers/visitors searching for great content and finding you? Or are they reading you and finding great content?

Does it matter?
